Maharashtra cane growers asked to be aware of mills’ financial status

In an official notice to farmers, Commissioner Shekhar Gaikwad has supplied specifics on the mills potential to fork out totally and on time the Reasonable and Remunerative Cost (FRP) set for the cane by the Centre.

Bogus promises

Mills in Maharashtra will commence crushing operations on October fifteen and the Sugar Commissioner notice states that for the duration of the recent crushing time ending September thirty, some mills have compensated whole FRP inside the stipulated timeframe, when many others have not compensated the sum inspite of the deadline lapsing.

Gaikwad stated that farmers continuously complain to the government and his office about not receiving FRP payment, or decrease payment, or delayed payment.

The Sugar Commissioner additional that some important complaints about mills involve luring farmers by promising greater payments than the FRP and then refusing to fulfil the guarantee. Some mills refuse to crush cane, when some fork out only part of the FRP at the starting of the time and retain the dues pending. “Some objectionable techniques like paying high sum than the FRP to picked farmers (to entice other farmers to deliver their cane to the mill) and then deceiving many others have been recognized. Different organisations arrive with morchas, hunger strikes, and dharnas in this regard”.

The Sugar Commissioner office has taken action from truant mills by slapping them with an RRC discover, he stated.
